Overglazes / Lusters

Overglazes refer to a group of lusters and metallics that are applied to a previously glazed and fired surface. When fired, they are heated to very low temperatures compared to normal glazes, and are best fired to cone 018 (1300 to 1350F). The result yields the brilliance of metallics and a rainbow of luster hues, like that of a pearl. 

To apply and dry on an already-fired glaze surface, the overglaze must be suspended in solvents This accounts for the strong fumes these products normally have.
