Cobalt Oxide is a metallic coloring oxide that produces blue colors in glazes and is stable at all firing temperatures (unless in very high percentages where it will be black). Cobalt Oxide is the most powerful ceramic colorant and it appears in glaze recipes at 1% or less. Because cobalt oxide is not as finely powdered as cobalt carbonate, cobalt oxide is more likely to create blue specks in the glaze, a quality that we believe can be quite beautiful!
